Listen to the rain

Listen to the rain
Listen to the stories it tells
For the rain
Has been to every
Corner of the earth
Except maybe the desert
And if you come from
A place like mine
A place where the winter is gray and not white, water and not cold,
The rain knows you
Better than the sun
Listen to the rain
Sometimes
It can give you
Better advice
Than a thousand friends
And more wise thoughts
Than a person a thousand years old
Inhabiting the earth
Listen to the rain
It tells only the truth

Here I am

Here I am
On the brink of discovery
And difficulty
An finding
What it is
To live
Unrestrained by ties to the ground
I am a tree
Left in the garden
After every living soul
Has gone
My branches finally allowed
To grow, untamed
I am a piece of barren rock
Buried deep
Beneath the surface
Left alone for millions of years
I just might become
A diamond
I am a caged bird
Just about
To be set free
Now, we must wait
To see
Will I ever return?

We will

I know
Everyone is telling us
That there is no way we'll do it
I know
We're the only ones
That really think
Our plans will play out
But I also know
As long as we
Can believe
In our ability
To make anything happen
And our determination
To work hard and
Do whatever it takes
We will do it
We will get out of this place
We will

We had a little bubble

We had a little bubble
Secluded from time and space
Containing only our bodies

We had a little bubble
In which there was no doubt or fear or rejection

We had a little bubble
And the only emotion allowed
Was pure joy

We had a little bubble
I wish it hadn't popped

Like a CD track

I wish
You could somehow
Attach yourself
To my consciousness
Just for a little while
So that you could understand
How I feel about you
Without the very high
Danger of me
Scrambling up the words
It would work
I'm sure it would
The only question is,
How?

On writing

Writing is my drug
It is my intoxication
My everyday rush
My addiction
Is the feel of paper under graphite
My 'trip' is the tangent of words
That I feel flowing
Through my fingertips
Words I didn't even know
Were coming
I get high
Off of the pure
Beauty
Of finally finding a way
To say what I really feel
Writing
Should be prescribed by doctors
Described
As a way to achieve
Mental peace
And
Utter
Exhilaration

Truly beautiful

Oh beautiful girl
Look at yourself
Stand right in front of a mirror
And look
Don't allow
Any lies
To enter your consciousness
But rather
Stay there
Until you actually
Truly
Understand
The beauty
Of your face
Of your body
And of your soul
The truth is
That everyone
Surrounding you can see it
Dark blinds
Have been placed in front of your eyes
Your vision
Is altered by what
We sometimes allow ourselves
To believe
Is the definition of beauty
Do not
Believe it
Do not
Allow that lie
To twist around in your mind
Long enough to seem like truth
You
Are truly
Beautiful

Not enough

It shouldnt be a choice
It should be something
You can't control
Compulsive
Consuming
Taking over your every thought
Something that becomes
So much a part of you
That you can't seem to
Imagine
What would happen
If that feeling went away
So yes,
Maybe I like you too
But
Just
Not
Enough

Kindred spirits

When I first saw you
I felt like I knew you
When i first saw you
I felt like you were an old friend
A kindred spirit
Just like in green gables
We were two planets
Orbiting close enough
To feel each others fire
Feel each others breath
But just not close enough
For impact
Or touch
But I knew
That in this small town
One day
Our worlds were bound to collide
In this small town
It would come to be
You would find me

Candice

I miss
Staying up all night
Playing computer games
With you
I miss
Talking in third person
All day
And annoying everybody else
With you
I miss
Having to spend thirty minutes
Convincing you that my lips were chapped
And I wasnt just wearing really red lipstick
And arguing about it
With you
I miss
Your laugh
Your face
Your spirit
Even when
We were no longer friends
I'd walk down that hall
And see you laughing
Always laughing
And it would brighten my day
If I could change one thing
We would have still been friends

I know

And I just know
That as long as I sit here
I'm never going to have the strength required to make myself go
It's like a friendly imprisonment
An effortless back up plan
Every second I'm wasting in this place
Is one less day spent living my life
So then why can't I go?
I assure you
That fear has nothing to do with the equation
It's a simple matter
Of the power of attraction
You're the positive to my negative and we make a bond that is
Almost
Unbreakable
Please, baby
Tell me that what I'm feeling, you're feeling too
Cause if you don't then I'll go
I promise I'll try
Even though
I don't want to
What I want is you

Free

Oh this place
Is the definition of our youth
It underlines our subtleties
And simmers
Our blackest moods.
It is the crossroads
At which we press pause
On our days that go swirling by
So as to catch a moment,
And wave hello from afar

Oh this place,
It renders our youthful beauty
And it mimics our inner calm
It is a breath, a gap in the air
Before we face the outer world
And shout
To the heavens

Oh this place
It is where we take advantage
Of the brevity of strangers
And the quick metabolism
Of our bodies
When this sweetness
Courses through our veins
We sight at the temporary pleasure

Of finally discovering
What it means to be
Detatched
A floating entity
Drifting from corner to corner
Motivated only
By the wind and the stars

Finally
We are free

Yet.

I want you to know that
I don't know you yet
But I want to
And maybe I'm going to.
And it's possible that some would call it
Bordering on obsession
And it's possible
That they would be right.
I want to see you
Anyway
And I want to learn your
Everyday.
I want to spend hours next to you,
Unmoving and unspeaking
So that we can figure
Each other out
Without the complication of communication.
I realize I'm talking in rhymes
And most likely
Bad ones at that
But just ignore that part
And try and see what I'm really saying.
I'm really saying let's try it,
Let's do an experiment that is tested on animals
And proved to be right.
I'm saying that maybe
Just maybe
There's a chance in a million
That the chemistry of your soul and mine
Will react and from an ionic reaction.
Yeah, baby, I'm a nerd
But I don't want to just share my electrons
With you
I want them to be a gift.
And as long as people are still buying
Lottery tickets
I'll still take my chances at
One plus one
Equalling two.
I want to know you.
I want to tell you the truth
That's so truthful
That my lips will tell you
Before they tell me.
I want to speak in sentences that don't
Have parts missing.
I want to
Scream and laugh and cry and sing and shout and dream
In your presence
So that you can ride my ups and downs
Without a seatbelt.
I shouldn't want you,
Because most likely you're bad news,
And for all I know you could be
A madman
And an ex-convict.
I don't know you.
I don't, and I know that.
I don't know you.
Yet.

The meaning of constellations

And this landscape is a constellation that I made for you
Because it's so relative to the definition
Of you and me
That it's going to shine in the nighttime
So that every time you look out your window
You'll be reminded of how this place is astronomical
In terms of meaning.
And for centuries to come
The creatures and controllers
Of this world will see us
And they'll try to understand
How we can experience love
So deeply
That we can carve our stories
Into the very
Stone
Of this
Galaxy
